Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is a unique place – not only do they sell plants, dining & kitchen ware but it’s also home of a fabulous restaurant. All this is down in Surrey, south of London. Earlier on this year chef Skye Gyngell who brought the restaurant a Michelin star has quit her job and is now replaced with the Australian chef Greg Malouf. Anyhow we headed down to Richmond on the Jubilee Bank hol’ weekend and had a fabulous relaxed lunch.
As for the interior there is to say that the setting is simply beautiful as you’re sitting in a conservatory with earthen floor, mix matched furniture and of course, loads of roses, flowers and greens.
Now let’s talk food: The first starter was grilled prawns with datterini tomatoes and lentils. As a second starter, a beef tartar was garnished with pickled cucumbers, mint & flowers. The mains were both fish: number 1 was a roasted halibut, with oaken feta, fennel, chill and baby spinach. .
Fish dish #2 came with samphire, roasted tomatoes, olives & lemon aioli.
The lunch was finished with a “New Season Kent strawberry granita with an Arabesque wafer”..
